I got flowers!!!

by Katharine

So I was having a lousy, lousy, lousy awful day. Really, really bad. And just a few minutes ago reception calls and says "You have flowers upstairs". And guess who sent me flowers? Yup, that would be Jeff, aka the world's most wonderful fiancee!! He's the BEST!!! Gorgeous flowers, made my day, and he's the most fabulous man ever. Sooooo glad I sunk my claws into him and now he's mine! :-)

Peanut Butter...Toast Crunch

You call it an obsession if you want to...but this is what my cereal cabinet looks like right now:
RIGHT NOW...It's filled to the brim with the tasty goodness of Peanut Butter Toast Crunch. Don't confuse this with that sucky Cinnamon Toast Crunch...it's definitely not that. The horror when I discovered that they were discontinuing the Peanut Butter Toast line and then I saw Katharine pour some into a bowl...she had almost as yummy but not quite, Cheerios in the same cabinet, but into a bowl went those little peanut buttery nuggets that would soon be off supermarket shelves for good. No wonder I've been having trouble sleeping.

House of Wax, Halloween, and Hoping to Sleep

I'm starting to think that Katharine's insomnia is contagious. It sucked enough when just one of us had this...but I've only slept one out of the last 3 nights...Sunday and Tuesday night I got maybe a couple of hours if I was lucky and I'm TIRED...tired and cranky...and tired. It's so much worse when both of us have insomnia...especially on different nights, because let's be honest...when one can't sleep...neither can sleep.

Since I was in high school, I used to stay up until 1AM every night. Even a couple of years ago, I found myself staying out until the wee hours and still functioning at work the next day...now, a few nights with little sleep and I'm exhausted...I can barely function all day. Halfway through the day, I say to myself...self...tonight, I'm going to be early. And then I go home and that's it...up until 1AM. This is true UNLESS I watch a boring movie. Tonight, we saw the new "House of Wax" on DVD and it was not a boring movie...now most people are thinking...Paris Hilton is in that isn't she? The last time anyone saw Paris Hilton in a movie...well...I won't go there...but really, the movie was pretty good for a "close to Halloween" horror movie. Anyone going to see "SAW II"?

Who's going Trick or Treating this year? What costume are you wearing?

{sigh} Look at the time...

Blog Wars!

So...this is how we're going to use the new site format. OK...I get it. I COULD delete Katharine's post below, but that wouldn't be fair. Wouldn't be fair at all. So, she says that she's second to the dog because I happened to be looking at him when I made my statement...but this declaration of coming second to the dog comes from the girl that used to get upset if I MOVED the cat. "Lily is sleeping there...don't move her"...even if that meant, Jeff sat on the floor. That's right people.

So, I've given Katharine direct posting rights and she trashes me on her second post. That's OK...I can live with that...it's half the fun of giving her the direct post access...Oh...what...she's asking me to edit her post because she can't...doesn't have admin rights to the blog...hmmm...how about that?

Second in line

by Katharine

So this evening it's nasty outside. Rainy, cold, nasty all around. I don't know if anyone else is aware of Jeff's obsession with getting comfy on the sofa. He gets all excited and pulls the blankets over himself, the pillows all have to be around him.. and bonus points if Lily and Monty come over and join us. As he's getting all comfy... and he is darn cute while doing this.... he says how happy he is that "Monty, me, and Lily" are all around him. That's right, I'm second. Monty is first. No real point to this story other than... I'm second to a dog.

David's Bridal

by Katharine

Ladies, I don't care if you're already married, not married, single with no desire to be married.. I demand you all go down to David's Bridal on Rte 1 and try on dresses. It is the BEST experience in the entire world. I took my good friend and bridesmaid, Jen, last weekend and we had a blast. First... our salesperson kept referring to herself in the third person. Her name was "Alla" so this what she would say... "Alla will get that for you.... Alla knows.... All will help you". It was too funny... and she was seriously ticking off Jen with her third person speak! Next... you get to wear a communal bra! YES!!!! Apparently it really offends David's Bridal personnel when you bring your own strapless contraption, and instead they make you use one of their own bras (which are of course available for sale). But on to the good stuff... trying on dresses! They have just about every style, size, color that you can dream of.. and I was trying on everything! I'll never have this chance again and while I know that I will never wear that Cinderealla gown with hoop skirt and corset top.. I sure as hell am going to be trying that baby on!! OH YEAH! To top it off... Alla kept sticking a tiara on my head. Now I ask you people.. at 31 years old.. shouldI be wearing a tiara??? The answer is no. I'm not under 24 and thus a tiara is not really an appropriate accessory for me. Never mind that of course this tiara is for sale... at $250+. Oh I do NOT think so!!! But ladies trust me.. this fun! You can spend all morning trying on gowns.. it costs no money since you don't need to buy anything that day... and you will have a good laugh over lunch with your girlfriend later! Great way to spend a Saturday morning! Oh.. and bonus points if you decide to horrify your saleswoman by telling her you'll be bringing back your fiancee for the final decision! ;-)

Trashed!

Did I ever tell you about the time that Katharine stepped in a puddle of dumpster water? OK...it wasn't exactly a puddle...more like a small pond. She loves this story so make sure you comment on it. So it had just rained for 40 days and 40 nights...or something like that. Kind of like the weather New England suffered through last week. We were in our old apartment...I can't believe I haven't already written about this. We were taking the trash out and there was water from the back steps of the apartment building to the dumpster...about 30 feet. Katharine thought she could make it...there had to be shallow parts of this puddle, right? Wrong. JUMP...SPLASH...calf deep in dumster water!

Here was the dialogue:

KATHARINE: F*CK!

JEFF: Artoo! Shut down all the garbage mashers on the dentention level! (I'm SO helpful)

KATHARINE: It's COLD!!!!

JEFF: SHUT DOWN ALL THE GARBAGE MASHERS ON THE DETENTION LEVEL

JEFF: {in my best C3PO voice} They're dying Artoo...shut them all down!

KATHARINE: You're not helping!

HAHA! I'm so helpful! ;-)

Wide Awake

Remind me next time that I shouldn't drink coffee at 1030 at night...not coffee with caffeine anyway. I'm awake and I don't know what to do...so I'm here talking about it. It's so easy to make a cup of coffee...I've got one of those single cup coffee maker thingies. It's good for weekends and nights like this, but not for morning. I rely on Dunkin Donuts for my morning caffeine charge...Dunkin Donuts...where the coffee is weak, but it's cheaper than Starbucks. Ahhh...glug...glug...glug. Another sip and I'll be up for the next hour or two. Oh...maybe I'll get a snack to go with this. What the hell...I'm up. I prefer Starbucks coffee to Dunkin...it has more flavor...OK...it has lots more flavors...too many flavors...and the price reflects this. $4.25 for a medium...excuse me...GRANDE...Mint Mocha...which is actually Peppermint Mocha, but only at Christmas when they use the red sprinkles. Is it almost Christmas already? Where does the time go? {sigh} Time...time to sleep, but I'm wide awake.

Serenity (no spoilers)

Most of you know that I rarely do movie reviews here...basically because I'm not qualified by trade to do so. I'm not "Aint it Cool News" or other such unqualified sites that do so on a regular basis. Not that I don't read and enjoy such sites, but...well, now I'm getting off track. Katharine and I went to see "Serenity", the Joss Whedon film based on the not so hit, short lived, but excellent series, "Firefly". No worries...I won't be spoiling anything for you here. What I will say...is that this movie was fantastic. Better...let me repeat...BETTER than anything Star Wars of the past...i don't know...8 years. It ranks right up there with the Original Trilogy. The storytelling is great...we went with two people that never saw the television show, and they enjoyed it too. We enjoyed it MORE...but they liked it. Notice I haven't spoiled ANYTHING. NOTHING. I won't spoil anything because I won't tell you anything about the movie...only to GO SEE IT so they'll make more movies. Even if you hate Sci-Fi movies...it's time to stop being selfish and go see this movie so they'll make more and I can go see them. What's that? You're not going. Fine...it's OK...if you want movie studios to keep making shit movies like "Elizabethtown" or "The Dukes of Hazzard", that's your choice. Because they'll keep making those movies and less and less people will attend the movies...and then YOU will be personally responsible for the destruction of the movie industry. Not downloading pirated movies...but you. Thanks alot for that. Make up for it now by going to see "Serenity"!

In the Army Now

Katharine almost joined the Army!! While searching for Dental Assistant/Dental Hygeine possibilities in Boston on Craig's List, a classified ads site, she came across an ad to work on the teeth of our brave men and women in uniform. Little did she know, that lurking at the bottom of the page, was the fine print. This is the fine print that so many miss in such ads...the tiny, itty bitty print that spoke of a 6 year commitment and several weeks of basic training prior to being a dental assistant. Yep, that's right folks...she would have enlisted by accident! HA!

Changes

A new site design...complete with a blog. But we're not going to call it a blog because I hate blogs. I'm going to try and keep the same quality of rants that I've been publishing every week...and by same quality, I don't mean to say that my rants are any better than other people's blogs. If you think that "I've Been Thinking" is a shit column...then it'll continue to be a shit column. It's the same thing it always has been except now you...the reader...has the opportunity to comment. That's not to say you should tear me apart with nastiness week after week...nobody wants to read that. Don't just use the comment section for evil...If you want to share a story related to a particular rant...especially if it's a funny story...that would be great. If you have an opinion about something I say...well...that's your opinion, and you're entitled to that opinion. Others might even be interested in your opinion. I'll respect you for giving your opinion. I'd appreciate it if you don't insult my other readers with that opinion. Maybe you're making a comment because you think that week's comic sucks. Don't just say it sucks...tell me why it sucks and give a suggestion or I'll delete your post. That's right...I can do that because I own the site. It's true. Which brings us to that part about censorship...I want to read what you have to say...and if you're reading comments...you want to read what others have to say. If you're offended by what someone says...don't talk to me about it...just as you have a choice whether or not you want to watch offensive television (you can change the channel)...you have the choice to not click on COMMENTS. I'm not the FCC...I actually believe in freedom of speech...unless you're hiding your identity by choosing to post anonymously (how lame is that to make an anonymous comment...let people respond). Overall, I'm hoping this will be fun for everyone...I can make posts as I think of new subjects and you can still read them once a week. I'll still only announce them once a week..don't want to fill up your e-mail with SPAM...I'm sure you get enough of that already. I know I do. So let's get on with it. Who wants to comment first and what do you want to talk about? I'll respond to all comments!
