We Spent Our Honeymoon In Line at L.L. Bean
OK, so this comes a couple of weeks late, but it'll be good.
Some of you know that L.L. Bean recently opened a store near us in Burlington, MA. We happened to be on vacation...on our honeymoon...so we decided to check it out. Normally, I would stay as far away from a store opening as possible...hate crowds...don't like lines...but THIS TIME was different. They were offering a gift certificate to the first 200 people in the door. Oh yeah. FREE L.L. Bean merchandise. The certificates ranged from $25 - $500 and it was a random draw. So we went and ran into THIS:

Being the greedy bitch that I am...we waited. And Waited. Now I don't know how well you can see it here...but there were a lot of friggin people. To be exact, there were 194 people in front of us. It's true. You know how I know? Because Katharine counted them all twice to make sure we weren't 200 and 201 in line. Instead, we were 195 and 196. Phew. We had to police the line to make sure nobody cut or was holding a space. Did I mention that this was our honeymoon?
So we got our certificates...2 hrs earlier than they were supposed to open...good thing we got there early. And when we returned to the store at 9AM, we had to get in line AGAIN!! Fuck...nobody told us that. So there we stood...we were about 500 in line this time, but we already had our free certificate. SO...we finally reached the front and looking back (the red dot shows where we started in line):

There are a crapload of people that like L.L. Bean.

So how much was the gift certificate for!?!?
Free stuff is NEVER free :) and wow you guys are patient!
I almost went to opening day for the gift certificate! And to think that I could have squeezed in line right behind you guys and been # 197. Then again, I might have gotten beat up by a crazy LL Bean fan.

We did OK...I got a $25 certificate, Katharine got a $50 and then we both got $25 more each as they handed them to everyone waiting. $125 just to wake up early and stand in line with all the other crazy people is not too horrible!
I'm still mad they don't sell sheets there.... I really wanted new flannel sheets!
No flannel sheets at LL Bean? I figured they would have the corner on the flannel market if anyone did. Anyhow, you are better than I at line-standing that's for sure.
