Does Anyone Else Have Animals That Think They're Never Going to Be Fed Again

We feed the dog and the cat at the same time of day...every single day including weekends. Yet right this minute, Monty our beloved greyhound, is staring me in the face, looking as worried as ever, and he wants me to feed him early...like I never do. The cat...Lily...is meowing like she hasn't had a meal in weeks. Our animals are well fed...don't go calling the MSPCA on us...they're just greedy. The animals...not the MSPCA. They (still the animals) continue to panic every night around dinner time that they won't get fed...and they worry about this right up until the moment they ARE fed. And then, after their stomachs are full, they get quiet and ignore us because apparently that's all we're good for...until snack time for kitty later in the evening...around 10pm. Like she knows it's time or something.

Do they wear watches? They seem to know what time to start fussing whether it's morning, dinner time, or snack time. I think they can tell time. Seriously. They're slowing driving us insane, and maybe that's their plan. But then, who would feed them. Would you?

Blame Pavlov for that one. Well, actually, don't blame him... he didn't *cause* it. He just sort of figured out that animals and people fall victim to conditioned responses. That being said, I just leave a dish of dry food out for my cats. There are two, so they're plenty active and not fat. Of course others in my household wait until I'm not around and then sneak them roast beef and tuna fish (sheesh), but that's another matter.

YES, I agree, they have not only a clock but also a calendar all built into their tiny little brains, I'm sure of it. Our little Maggie ONLY gets a wet breakfast (from can) on weekends as a treat (we cherish our weekends, why shouldn't she?). How does she know a saturday morning from a thursday morning? Complete mystery to us. BUT SHE KNOWS.
Also, she gets wet food for dinner every night around 6pm when we both get home from work. And if you make the mistake of running an errand on your way home and not get to her needs until 6:30pm, you will hear about it! Holly mackerel, how can something SO SMALL produce so much noise, over and over and over???? Good thing I'm not able to understand the insults she throws at me then but the frown on her little mug says it all.... PISSED!!!!!!!!!
Pets.... they run our lives. But would we have it any other way?????
:o))))

Jim's attempt to winning over the dogs when he moved in was to give them pieces of whatever he was eating... while we were sittng at the table!! Needless to say, it only took one time of doing that before Brady caught on pretty fast that Jim is an uber-nice guy... so now every night at dinner, there is Brady, sitting up tall, with that pathetic i'm-gonna-die-if-you-dont-give-me-a-crumb look, whining, watching the food go from plate to mouth, over and over again. He does this to Jim though, not me :)

It's funny you know, kids are the same way! They start begging and whining and following me around until I feed them. And it doesn't stop. It happens every 3 hours, just when I'm about done cleaning up after the previous feeding.
