There's a Rumor Going Around That I Have a Short Attention Span When it Comes to Cars
There's this rumor going around that I like to drive a different car every two years (or less). Let's travel back in time a little bit. First I had the lovable but troublesome Mini Cooper. Had it repaired 7 times in the exactly one year I owned it. Then I moved on to the ugly, boxy, but extremely versatile and useful Honda Element. Then I traded back to an automatic transmission because I got sick of constantly shifting in traffic...so I now have a Jeep Liberty. All this happened in the last 5 years, so maybe the rumor isn't such a rumor.
So anyway...that's all in the past. Now I need a new car and I have some requirements. I want OnStar. Doesn't matter why I want it...I just do. I need at least All Wheel Drive...aka AWD. Trust me...this isn't a want as much as it is a need with the hill that I live at the top of...and considering it snows here for a quarter of the year. I've narrowed it down to the Saturn VUE, the Chevy Equinox, or some Saab car...I forget the model designation...Seven of Nine...or something like that.

I wouldn't go with the Saab - parts are costly. Don't know much about Saturns. I had a chevy truck and it never failed me. Wish I never sold it. My mother, back about 30 years ago, had a chevy Nova and it never failed her even in the most snowiest of Buffalo blizzards. I can recall seeing many stranded cars along the side of the road as we slowly but surely cruised on by. It got us home safely every time. Maybe, tho, you should wait until we get snow and test drive a bunch of different AWD vehicles and see which one can make it up your hill with the most ease!
P.S. My Dad has OnStar and loves it! Whenever he gets lost he just calls them up and they greet him by name and direct him to his destination in the most friendly kind of way! Sometimes he calls them just to say hello whenever he has a visitor in his car.
Well, why do you need a new car?
Think of the new others that go with it:
high excise taxes
high monthly payments
poor trade in value
Money that could be used elsewhere:
ie:
Cars give you no return for money
House upgrades do (investment)Better job by taking classes do
Saving the max from the 401 K do
Planning for the future by wise investments each month do
But.. all this is point of view
For me a new car til it drops and then house, vacation to land of dreams, and investments -- in that order.
By the way,
I love your website. I learn a lot about you and Katharine -- especially you. Your animations are improving a lot, the humor is unique and ... I am writing at 11 pm and have to get up tomorrow at 5:30. Right now I am angry because I blew a test I shouldn't have--I knew the material cold.
Talk to you later,
Sarah
"why do you need a new car?"
All of those things you mentioned are OK, but they can't be done without a car to get to work and make money in the first place! Vacations are a waste of money...gone as soon as you return. Investments are risky. Taking classes is also a waste unless you're actually going to use what you go to school for (which many people don't). House upgrades are good, but you need money first...can't get that without a car. And around and around we go. VROOOOOM!
LOL!!!
Don't get a SAAB!
Well, its late and I have 2 tests tomorrow -- the horrific one being 5 chapters on pharmacology (drugs) all this after spending 5 hours at a church taking Blood Pressures for school. I am so tired I could drop.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I read your car thing again and I would opt for the Saab. First off, its from Sweden -- think, tough metal, safe chassy, ice cold weather Vikings and mountains. It is a trite expensive, but this is the car to break your need to change every 2 years. Get the works, take a deep breath and plunge -- they tell me the water is Sweden is extremely icy too -- also very safe for babies.
Hmmm...I'm not sure I would agree that icy cold water is safe for babies. :-P
